A Tribute to Mom

A Tribute to Mom

Good evening.  My name is Patrick DiVita and I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce you to a very special person in my life.  This person was born in a town called Charleston, West Virginia on December 20, 1948.  She grew up in a small town and attended Belle Elementary School before going to Gauley Bridge High School.  She graduated from the West Virginia Institute of Technology.
This person has remained very close to me throughout my entire ife.  She was there when I was born.  She was there when I took my first step.  She was there when I lost my first tooth.  She was there when I fell and scraped my knee.  She always had band-aids.  She was there when I could not sleep at night.  She gave me medicine and fruit punch when I was sick, and she always took me to the dentist when I had a toothache.  She seemed to have a thermometer built right into her lips.  All she had to do is kiss me on the forehead and she could tell whether or not I had a fever.  This didn’t help much when I didn’t want to go to school, because she would always make me go unless I had a fever.
This person was always firm with me, but always seemed to have the right answers.  She could feed an entire family of six people with only one pound of hamberger meat.  She never took a single vacation from her job and never even received one single paycheck.  I don’t think there was enough money in the World to even pay her.
This person never and will never stop believing in me.  She always seemed to know whether or not I was telling the truth.  She has shared all of life’s disappointments with me and felt the pain of all of my cuts, scrapes, and bruises.  From my first summer camp to buying my first house, this person watched every year pass by, as I was able to roam further and further from home.  She stayed up late worrying if I was not home on time.  This person was my own private tutor; she took every opportunity to teach as many of life’s lessons as she could.
Now that I have grown up, she still listens with her heart and understands my feelings.  She has probably saved every card that I have given her and she keeps my pictures all over the mantle.  She has always offered me unconditional love.
This introduction can only describe one person in this world.  This is a person who can never possibly be repaid for all of the things she has done for me.  Ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to meet….. My mother.

Proverbs 31:28-31
Her sons rise up and call her blessed.
Her husband also praises her;
“Many women are capable, but you surpass them all!”
Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the LORD will be praised.
Give her the reward of her labor, and let her works praise her at the city gates.
