And When You Pray

And When You Pray…

 Matthew 6:6-13

But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will repay you. And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition, as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.

Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him.

Pray then, in this way:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we have also forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
(for Thine is the kingdom, and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen)

Our Lord gave this as a model prayer after one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:1)

We are to pray to “Our Father who art in heaven,” because He is all-wise, all-loving, and all-powerful.

We are also instructed to pray in the name of Jesus (John 10:13,10) depending on the meditative influence of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:26,27)

We are to pray for His will to be done in everything. (James 4:15)

We are to pray for the coming of the Kingdom. (Matthew 25:31-46)

We are to pray for our daily necessities. (Luke 11:3)

We are to pray for forgiveness, and practice forgiving others (Matthew 18:21,22)

We are to pray for the leading of the Lord, and deliverance from evil. (Luke 22:42)

We are to pray in faith, for “without faith it is impossible to please HIM. (Hebrews 11:6)
